At the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS), we are a bunch of tech-savvy social scientists eager to make the world a better place. We are quite as excited about the wonders of humanness as we are about the powers of technology. We bring people and tech together in innovative, responsible and value-creating ways. We do this through academic education, fundamental science and societal problem solving. From Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees (e.g. Psychology, Industrial Engineering and Management, Communication Science, International Business Administration, Management, Society & Technology, Educational Science, Philosophy, Environmental and Energy Management, Public Administration) and Professional Learning & Development programs to cross-disciplinary research programs in any of our five research themes: Emerging Technologies & Societal Transformations; Resilience; Smart Industry; Learning; and Health. Currently, the Faculty holds approximately 550 employees, 400 guest employees and 4.000 students (pré-/master and bachelor). The financial base of the faculty is solid, with opportunities to invest in promising new ideas and initiatives. The past two years we have been able to attract and recruit a considerable number of new, bright and talented employees, enthused by our drive and mission. BMS is looking forward to sustain this energetic development under the UT-strategy SHAPING 2030.

BMS is looking for a Dean with expertise in societal challenges and a clear vision on ‘the interrelationship of humanities, social, behavioral, and management sciences in relation to technological

transformation in a context of an engineering university’. An inclusive leader who, together with the collegial Faculty Board, is capable of inspiring and engaging the faculty to  further safeguard and improve the quality of our education and research. The colleagues of the Dean in the Faculty Board are the Vice-dean of education, Vice-dean of research and the portfolio holder operations.
The coming years the faculty faces many interesting challenges, including:
  • Further development of our Bachelor and Master programs in the context of UT educational policy;
  • Continued focus and further development of our 5 central Research themes, taking into account the outcomes of the upcoming/ongoing SEP Research Review: Emerging Technologies & Societal Transformations; Resilience; Smart Industry; Learning; and Health;
  • Further development of talent, expertise and scientific staff befitting BMS’ designated UT mission;
  • Further strengthening the operational and strategic connections, ties and portfolio’s with the UT Technical Faculties in the context of the university institutional objectives and priorities under SHAPING 2030;
  • Further development and collaboration, national and international, as part of the UT ambition to strengthen its strategic alliances within Twente, the Eastern Netherlands, The European Cross border Region EUREGIO, the national alliance of University of Twente with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU-UT Alliance), the University of Munster and the European University initiative of the European Consortium for Innovative Universities (ECIU),.
  • Increased initiatives for external projects and partnerships at various levels of operations: regional, national, European and Global North-South;
The new Dean
  • contributes proactively to the mission of the university as a people first, high tech university and leads with an entrepreneurial, inclusive and open mindset;
  • positions the faculty with leadership and vision regarding external developments and internal requirements;
  • is a collaborative leader who operates within a collegial faculty board of 4 members in total;
  • sustains a broad faculty engagement process and nurtures the Twente position within the international field;
  • fosters a healthy and safe working environment for all professionals in the faculty;
  • continues to improve the recently renewed organizational structure of the faculty and encourages staff and students to take up leadership roles;
  • represents the faculty within and outside the university and takes responsibility for faculty and university initiatives;
  • actively seeks for opportunities for joint and impact-driven initiatives within regional, national and international networks and inspires further innovation;
  • appreciates the added value of employee and student participation and has a clear understanding of student well-being in a post pandemic period.
Candidates
  • have a collaborative and flexible leadership style with managerial and communication skills, driven by transparency and committed to implement principles of diversity and inclusion;
  • believe in clear ownership at all levels within the organization;
  • strongly encourage talent and leadership development;
  • have a strong interdisciplinary background and/or orientation and are able to build bridges between different disciplines of the faculty and beyond;
  • are visible, approachable and an active supporter of community building;
  • are  intrinsically  motivated  to  connect,  co-create,  make  impact  and are known  for  an entrepreneurial and ground-breaking spirit;
  • act as trustworthy academic leader towards multiple audiences;
  • are full professor or qualified to be appointed as professor;
  • have an excellent command of English.
Offer
We offer a full-time position as Dean in an inspiring and challenging international and academic environment with a competitive salary and excellent employment conditions!
  • a fulltime position for 4 years and a possible extension of 4 more years;
  • a maximum monthly salary of €10.272 gross, plus a supplement of 15%;
  • extras such as an 8,3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday allowance;
